andesite Andesite is a block of igneous rock, most often found in large pockets in the ground.

polished-andesite Polished Andesite is the polished version of andesite.

Obtaining
Natural generation
Ore (feature)

Andesite can generate in the Overworld in the form of ore blobs. Andesite attempts to generate in two batches. The first batch generate 2 times per chunk in blobs of size 0-864, from elevations 0 to 60, in all biomes. The second batch has 1 chance to generate blobs of size 0-864, from elevation 64 to 128. BE, andesite can replace stone, diorite, granite, polished andesite‌, polished diorite‌, and polished granite‌. JE, andesite can replace stone, diorite, granite, tuff, and deepslate.

One block of polished andesite can be found in igloo basements. Polished andesite can also be found in the "nature", "forge", and "large jail" rooms of woodland mansions.

Bedrock, andesite generates naturally in coral reefs, replacing some coral as part of coral crusts.

Breaking
Andesite can be mined using any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, it drops nothing.

Trading
Journeyman-level mason villagers have a 2 chance to sell 4 polished andesite for one emerald as part of their trades.java

Apprentice-level stone mason villagers have a 25% chance to sell 4 polished andesite for one emerald as part of their trades.bedrock

Usage
Andesite is currently used only for decoration. It has the same blast resistance as stone, meaning it can be used as a substitute for stone when building.

Andesite and polished andesite can be placed under note blocks to produce "bass drum" sounds.

Trivia
* In the real world, andesite rock comes from above-ground lava flows. Finding andesite underground means the world's surface used to be lower, and the lava flow was buried.
** Diorite is andesite's below-ground equivalent: The two rocks come from the same kind of magma, but diorite rocks are formed from solidifying underground magma chambers. The long, slow cool makes it look coarser than andesite.
